I am musing about...
Dependence Day!
As I contemplate the history behind our national Independence Day, of how it ushered in a future of freedom and opportunity for the nation that was birthed on that day, I see some parallels to our Spiritual stories.
Parallels as well as differences.
As our founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence in which they separated themselves from Great Britain, their homeland, they consequently gained new found independence and opportunity to grow, thrive and become. To become a great nation. It was an independence that needed to be fought for in order to become a reality. Many gave their very lives for the hope of this desired freedom!
Likewise, on the day that we each made our Declaration of Dependence on Jesus, it is on that day that we finally found spiritual freedom. Freedom from the clutches of Satan and his powerful and deceptive ways. As we admitted our helplessness and our need for our "Big Brother" and our "Founding (Creator) Father", it was then that we were ushered into true and ever-lasting freedom.
Freedom from the bondage of sin. Freedom to live a life of purpose. Oh ring that freedom bell!
As we surrendered our whole lives to Jesus and acknowledged our need and dependence on him, aligning our hearts with His Word, the trajectory of our lives lined up with heaven! We found peace on Earth and joy for all eternity.
But for this spiritual freedom, a huge and sacrificial price also had to be paid. A price of love. One life had to be given. For us. The life of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
We, on our Dependence Day, like our nation on its Independence Day, found freedom to grow, thrive and become.
We became free...to become His child!
So when we look up and see the sky blazened bright with the splendor and beauty of fireworks lighting the night sky, may we take some time to also reflect upon our Spiritual Dependence Day, when we said yes to and leaned fully on Jesus, when the dark sky of our life was lit up with purpose, beauty and hope. Let us be "on fire" for Jesus and celebrate! May our fire work....inspired by thankfulness and for His glory!
