On Closets and Stewardship

I am musing about

Closets and Stewardship

So I have a confession. I like clothes. I like to coordinate them. To mix and match. To add a creative touch here and a fun touch there. Don't get me wrong. I am no fashionista. While to an extent, I enjoy noticing the trends (those that are reasonable), I just basically enjoy putting things together.

I like to pick up a fun bargain. Sometimes, it is thanks to Amazon or a "cute little shop or boutique" but often it is due to a second hand find.

Some of my clothes I have had for years. I like to "change them up", add a scarf or a different sweater to give them a new look.

My sweet grandma was known to be amazing at this. My mom (the youngest of 16 kids, 11 of which were daughters), shares how her mom could take a "hand me down" and rework it with her adept ability at the sewing machine, and create something beautiful that made her feel like it was brand new. It was touched by the hands of her dear mama's love!

I do not lay claim to that gift whatsoever, as much as I admire it.

No, my point here is actually, simply, that I tend to accumulate. Clothes. I have more then I need and I know it. My closet can testify to this.

And so, often as the seasons roll around, I take the opportunity to "clean out" and organize. The problem is, I do not clean out deep enough. I may hold on to a barely worn article of clothing thinking it may prove useful.... someday.

Also, I am not blessed like some of my friends that look good in anything. Anything, mind you. They could don a tablecloth and still look great:)

And also because of that I am not a "light packer". I can not throw a few things into the suitcase and be good to go. I take a variety of options along. Because you just never know what I will feel good in on a given day:)

All that to say....the Lord has convicted me. I need to be a good steward of my closet.

I need to take inventory. And most importantly, I need to use what I have. Or else give it away.

And so it is with all of the gifts the Lord has given us. Let us take inventory of them. Are we using them? Are they just "hanging in the closet of our life", waiting for an opportune time and day to be used?

Are we willing to "try on" a ministry or an outreach. To prayerfully ask the Lord to coordinate the service wardrobe of our day?

Take it to the Master Designer in prayer. Ask Him what gifts become you. What gifts He made "just for you". And then let's use them. Every day, as we open our Spiritual closet, let us ask the Lord to dress us for His purpose.

And then let's step out into the day, with a prayer on our heart, dressed and prepared to be used as He sees fit!

Thank You and God Bless!!

Thank you friends and family for coming along on this musing and marveling journey the last three and half years. The journey is not over. There is still plenty of musing and marveling to do. But for now, I have come to a place of pause and reflection. As 2023 rolls to its close, I am considering taking a step of faith to put this into a book to be shared with those I love, and those who love (or will love) Jesus! All along, it has been about using God given stories and random analogies to encourage and inspire, as together we let life point us to our life-giver, Jesus! And that is my prayer for each of you dear readers...that you may be encouraged, each day, to continue on in this Christ-following journey. Look to Him! Shine for Him! Love Him! Share Him! It is what we are called to do! For this life is all about serving our Lord and bringing others to the Father's throne of mercy and grace, that place where we all find hope, purpose and peace. And to each of our precious grand-c...
I am musing about.... Taking a Selah moment Selah! You see the word used often in the Psalms. What does it really mean? It has been thought that it could mean to "take a pause", to stop, think, reflect, let what you just read or heard really sink in. Last Sunday in church, the minister had us all take a "Selah moment".  For an entire minute the large sanctuary filled with potentially stirring/whispering congregants was hush still. As we all thought and pondered, either about something from the first service or an interaction we had during the fellowship time (thus were the instructions anyway) peace sank deeper into my heart. It was powerful. It helped cement in my mind some great thoughts from the earlier service, thoughts that could have easily slipped away. What a great idea! May we all take frequent "Selah moments". Times to pause, take notice, reflect and praise. After reading His Living Word. Selah. In the midst of a noisy crowd. Selah At your comp...

Just What is it About this Time of Year?

I am musing and marveling about.... Just what is it about this time of year?? It is a time of "peace on Earth, good will to men". It is a time of universal sharing, caring and giving. It is a time when people open their hearts, their homes and their pocketbooks. It is a time of nostalgia; a time of dreaming. It is a time of childhood wonder (no matter your age), It is a time of chorales, symphonies, caroling and ..... humming.  It is a time of togetherness, a time for connectivity (or at least a desire for it). It is a time of extreme busyness (pre-Covid anyway) and yet a time we yearn for quiet and pause. It is a time of reflection. It is a time of memory making and memory stirring. It is a time of healing or a time when healing feels so needed. It is a time of emotion, when feelings reign strong. It is a time when grief hits harder and joys abound more fully. It is a time of beauty and serenity and warmth. It is a time of reaching out and reaching in. It is a time of cozy...
