The Warmth of Friendship

I am marveling about....

Being "Warm Within"

I have a plaque over our Dining Room Table. I put it up for my Christmas and Winter decor and I love it. The plaque appropriately speaks to the picture that is hung above it. It is a canvas with the image of a welcoming cottage deep within a snow laden woods. The words on the plaque below it read:

                              "Cold outside, warm within

Spending time with friends and kin"

I don't know about you, friend, but I hate to be cold.

On these chilly Winter days, I can open the garage door and that sensation of cold can cut like an icicle-shaped knife causing me to shut the door with a hastened though gentle slam.

Whew! It just goes through a person. That chill.

But then, the joy of warmth...

-as I close the door to the elements and sense the protection and safety of my comfortable abode

-as I take a deep swallow of hot cocoa and actually sense its heat making its way down my throat; somehow penetrating my whole body with warmth with each delicious sip

-or the warmth that engulfs me as I snuggle under a soft, cozy blanket

-or the heat that delights as I sit by the fireplace, enjoying its comforting crackle and glow

Doesn't warmth delight the soul?

And so it is when one spends time with a friend; one who "gets us" and cares for us to the core.

That person whom we can be ourselves with, laugh, cry, dream and act silly with,

Their presence evokes that feeling that "all is right with the world"

Their conversation can enlighten, enrich and encourage

It fills us with warmth...

Like a cup of hot cocoa..

With marshmallows....

On a cold winter's day.

"....the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel."     Prov 27:9b

(During this Covid season, I cherish times with family and friends more then ever)

This Post begs me to take a step further. You likely know where I am going. You are likely already there:)

Do we not have a Friend who loves us like no other? One who is always there? One who is never socially distanced?  One who sticks "closer then a brother"?  He is the One who ignites a warmth within our soul setting it aglow with a love that is life changing . Thank you, Jesus. You warm me within; you are my best and closest friend!

"...but there is a friend who sticks closer then a brother."     Prov. 18: 21b

Thank You and God Bless!!

Thank you friends and family for coming along on this musing and marveling journey the last three and half years. The journey is not over. There is still plenty of musing and marveling to do. But for now, I have come to a place of pause and reflection. As 2023 rolls to its close, I am considering taking a step of faith to put this into a book to be shared with those I love, and those who love (or will love) Jesus! All along, it has been about using God given stories and random analogies to encourage and inspire, as together we let life point us to our life-giver, Jesus! And that is my prayer for each of you dear readers...that you may be encouraged, each day, to continue on in this Christ-following journey. Look to Him! Shine for Him! Love Him! Share Him! It is what we are called to do! For this life is all about serving our Lord and bringing others to the Father's throne of mercy and grace, that place where we all find hope, purpose and peace. And to each of our precious grand-c...

Misunderstanding Understanding

I am musing about...  Misunderstanding Understanding (the understanding of misunderstanding :) ) We all have been involved in misunderstandings; in being misunderstood. It is logical to see how this can happen. We all look at situations according to our  own "story", our personal experiences and our own  interpretation of life. There are times we say something, and it is simply taken "the wrong way". There are times someone says something to us, and we take it "the wrong way". The sad thing is when this misunderstanding goes uncorrected; when it influences behavior, emotions and relationships. That is why good communication is so important. That is why prayer is so needful. Do we pray that God will guide our words and conversations? Do we pray that God will prepare the hearts of those we may plan to speak with regarding a somewhat deep situation? But then there are those spontaneous, if you will, interactions. Those supposedly harmless statements that so...

The Pacemaker of my Heart

I am musing about.... The Pacemaker. My pacemaker. So I got one. Last Wednesday. Unexpectedly. At the age of 64! I started noticing that I was light headed with standing. Kept an eye on it. My Physician's Assistant son in law checked my B/P. It was great. Standing B/P-was great. Pulse...was low. Quite low. Mmmm.... Kept watching. Labs (thankfully normal). Eventual ER visit. EKG. Found out I had a 2nd degree heart block! (an electrical cardiac issue where-by the electrical impulse system is blocked for some reason, causing a problem with the stimulus for a beat not communicating correctly to the actual heart muscle which is responsible for the contraction) What? When? How? Within 48 hours of discovering this...I have a new friend. A pacemaker inserted for life. To assure that my heart does not get too low relative to this "electrical conduction" problem. "One of those things". Well, I am still processing all of this. Just seems weird. But I am thankful. Thankfu...
