Just What is it About this Time of Year?

I am musing and marveling about....

Just what is it about this time of year??

It is a time of "peace on Earth, good will to men".

It is a time of universal sharing, caring and giving.

It is a time when people open their hearts, their homes and their pocketbooks.

It is a time of nostalgia; a time of dreaming.

It is a time of childhood wonder (no matter your age),

It is a time of chorales, symphonies, caroling and ..... humming.

It is a time of togetherness, a time for connectivity (or at least a desire for it).

It is a time of extreme busyness (pre-Covid anyway) and yet a time we yearn for quiet and pause.

It is a time of reflection.

It is a time of memory making and memory stirring.

It is a time of healing or a time when healing feels so needed.

It is a time of emotion, when feelings reign strong.

It is a time when grief hits harder and joys abound more fully.

It is a time of beauty and serenity and warmth.

It is a time of reaching out and reaching in.

It is a time of cozy and cocoa.

It is a time of twinkling lights and beautiful scenes.

It is a time for walks in the snow or at least dreaming of them.

It is a time of programs and cantatas and commemorations.

It is a time of celebration and sharing.

It is a time for family, definitely for family. And friends. And neighbors. And those we really do not know, but whom we care about.

It is a time of colorful paper and pretty bows.

It is a time of old movies and new games.

It is a time of crackling fires and snuggly blankets.

It is a time for cuddles with children.

It is a time to gather around grandma and grandpa to hear their stories again.

It is a time for the Christmas story and the manger scene.

It is a time of cookies and sprinkles and goodies galore.

It is a time of giggles and laughter.

Oh this time of year!

What is it about this time?

Whether acknowledged or not... it is a time of special joy and deep warmth.

And through it all....when it is all said and done....

It is a special time of inherent goodness.

A time that deep down, humankind tends to love....

A time when people love to love and be loved....

It is a time that heralds Truth and Hope.

Why?

Just what is it about this time of year?

It is JESUS!

God Stories. What's yours?

I am marveling at God stories. What's yours?? Our daughter has a good friend. Her name is Stephanie. She is creative, talented, bubbly, sensitive and loves Jesus! And she wrote a book. For kids. About God. Called Always Remember . It is different then most kid's books. It has a poetic lilt which is beautiful, but atypical in its cadence. It's wording is unique; yet lovely. It is simple and it is deep.  It's premise is pivotal, declaring Truth! It is almost layered in that each reading of this basically simple book helps peel back another level of understanding and appreciation. It is a book that is actually instructional. It should be read often as a way to reflect and then to live. The main theme is teaching kids (and adults alike) to... Stop. Ponder. Remember God. To see Him every day in everything. To align daily with who He is. It is beautifully illustrated, with large colorful pictures that engage, teach, enlighten and intrigue. She shared how the book was firs...

There once was a fly....

I am musing on a story that begins like this.... There once was a fly. There once was a fly. It lived in Salt Lake City. More specifically, in Kingsbury Hall on the campus of the University of Utah. Kingsbury Hall is the Performing Arts Center. So that fly had the opportunity to view many productions. Last night, that fly was viewing a televised production that likely millions were watching. As that fly buzzed around, it decided to land on a nice head of white hair. And stay there awhile. Little did he know, that he was sitting on the head of the Vice President of the United States. Little did he know how important the role of Vice President of the United States is. Little did he know how important the upcoming election which was being debated is. Little did he know how much of that country's future was at stake. Little did he know how many prayers were being offered for that man upon whose head he sat... and  for those he works with Little did he know of the challenges that...

He loved people, There is no doubt  He liked to visit Liked to find things out Not in a gossipy sort of way That was not Jim's kind of way, He simply cared  Took an interest you see, He just enjoyed knowing  About you and me, He loved his Jesus With all his heart He leaned on him greatly He did from the start, After he surrendered, Back in 78, From that time on He served love from his plate, He enjoyed little kids Had a heart for the old, He loved to sing, Had a faith that was bold, Took care of his mom With kindness and care, Took her for rides, They were quite a pair, They gardened together, Made apple sauce, As boys worked on their farm, He was a fun, friendly boss, He was a farmer Through and through, He embraced all the things That grain farmers do, Then there was that day Five years ago, When things changed forever An acci...
