Covid 19

I am musing......

About Covid 19!

New Year's Day 2020...had not even heard of it!

Who would have thought that a couple months into the year that the world as we knew it would stop.

No ballgames? No church gatherings?? No eating out? No family get togethers? Not going to work? Basically no travel?

When stopping at an "essential business" to pick up needed supplies makes us feel that we are putting our lives at risk?

Who would have thought?

Missionaries being sent home

Sr. citizens never leaving their homes.

Nursing home residents unable to be visited by those they love.

People dying. Often alone. Without the warm hands and loving words of those they hold most dear.

People on cruise ships for an extended amount of time...and wishing they weren't.

Who would have thought?

Dairy farmers considering using their cow's milk for fertilizer vs painfully dumping it due to a decreased market

Everyone's 401 K's being slashed to where it is too painful to even take a look

High school Seniors not attending honor's banquets, Sr. nights and likely even graduation.

Elaborate wedding plans being altered to small intimate ceremonies with only parents in attendance.

Funerals and visitations not happening.

Who would have thought?

Gas prices so low, but no where to go.

Hands raw from being washed so many times, only to be washed yet again.

Groceries being cautiously wiped off before being placed in the cupboard.

Nightclubs and bars being closed.

Who would have thought?

Concerts being cancelled and some celebrities doing them virtually without their bands and only a piano or guitar...in their sweat pants...from their homes

Kids being home-schooled by parents who are "not home-school parents"

Zoom becoming a household activity.  What will it be like when we can view more then a two inch square of our loved one when talking with them?

Hugs being illegal.

Who would have thought??

Looking like we are all bandits in colorful masks. Eyes peeking out from behind; sometimes with a smile in them, often with fear.

Kids playing with neighbor kids across the street; divided by the street but somehow creatively playing the "same imaginary game"

Taking a walk around the neighborhood but keeping six feet away if we come upon a fellow walker

Grocery "pick up" becomes a weekly norm (if you can find a time slot available)

Calendars once jam packed now basically empty

Closets actually getting cleaned out

That blog I was "always going to start" actually getting started?

Daily public meetings delivered by our President

Being in the same predicament as the entire globe

The Olympics being postponed

Who would have thought?

The Democratic National convention being postponed

An election year where politics and candidate news is taking a back burner

Talk of no public voting sites for the upcoming election.

A comment being made that the next slew of babies should be called the "Coronials":}

Grocery shelves empty.

Toilet paper a "rare commodity"

Who would have thought?

Business doors locked in the middle of the day

No one abusing the Emergency Rooms

Elective surgeries not happening. Nurses sent home due to low census while other nurses are risking their lives and working practically non-stop to save lives

Healthy people passing away quickly due to a silent enemy

Mass grave burials

Ships being used as hospitals off the coasts of the US

Playgrounds taped off so no kids can not use the swings

Who would have thought?

Foreign exchange students unable to return to their home country. At least not till borders open up.

Belly exams for pregnant women being done in their car.

Airlines paying refunds for cancelled flights purchased without insurance

Who would have thought??

People reading their Bible like never before.

People turning to Jesus with hearts open to His message of hope

Youth picking up groceries and delivering them to the Seniors

Cards being written by people with good intentions who are now actually following through

Health care workers taking on the challenge of "helping others" beyond what they ever thought they  would be called to do

Treats, baked goods and meals being dropped off on door steps

Grandkids singing songs to Nana and Papa on facetime and watching their grandparents start to cry

Creativity, entrepreneurialism, team work and fortitude rising to a new level

Churches streaming and utilizing technology which they thought was inappropriate or at least unnecessary  several months ago

People opening their pocketbooks to provide for those who barely have pockets

Kids wanting to go to school

Who would have thought?

So many women going gray

Haircuts being done by "home salons" or the "shag" becoming the new trend

Families spending evenings together, playing games, sharing, praying, talking, bonding

Day cares closed and kids home with mommy and daddy instead

The book of Revelation being visited or revisited with new found interest and relevancy

People yearning for community

Seeing farmers in the field gives an overwhelming and welcome sense of normalcy

The jig zaw puzzle industry flourishing

A walk outside taking in the beauty of the spring time flowers is more then wonderful!

Who would have thought?

Local restaurants being supported by "drive through"

Folks getting "enough sleep"

Grandma's recipes being tried

Good will among men (and women)

Prayers being offered more continuously

People recognizing their need for a Savior?

Who would have thought??

GOD

The Gift of Art and Creative Contributions

I am marveling at                                                                                                           the Gift of Art and Creative Contributions! Wow. What a lovely day. My legs are tired, but my heart if full. Hubby and I biked another portion of the Hennepin Trail today. Beautiful and historic! So of course, our love affair with God's beautiful creation was stoked. But surprisingly, so was my appreciation for Art. We enjoyed biking past one lock after another, those old engineering marvels from the early days of the 20th century. The trail we biked along was a link to days gone by. For it was the same old pathway utilized by mules as they hauled the barges laden with grain and supplies along the canal joining the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. How I appreciated the old steel rusty structures, the bridges and the locks, with their levers, gears, arches and spokes. They spoke to me of the past. As did the old path itself.   There were relatively few people o

What I Saw Today

I am musing...                                                                                                            ~11/2020 about what I saw today I stepped into the med room this morning. It is a little room off of the west side nurse's station.  It was quiet back there. And what I saw made my heart sing with a sense of grateful comfort. There on the counter, someone had left an open Bible. It was sitting there, a testimony that someone had likely taken a moment to grab a deep breath  and glean some divine words of encouragement. It was still open, inviting others to also partake from the comfort of it's living pages. Like for so many, this has been a really tough season for all of us. Nurses, aides, administration, housekeeping, dietary, activities....we all have found ourselves caught up in a reality we did not realize we had signed up for. The extra logistics, anxieties, regulations. uncertainties, fogged up glasses, claustrophobic masks, staffing challenges, reside

God Stories. What's yours?

I am marveling at God stories. What's yours?? Our daughter has a good friend. Her name is Stephanie. She is creative, talented, bubbly, sensitive and loves Jesus! And she wrote a book. For kids. About God. Called Always Remember . It is different then most kid's books. It has a poetic lilt which is beautiful, but atypical in its cadence. It's wording is unique; yet lovely. It is simple and it is deep.  It's premise is pivotal, declaring Truth! It is almost layered in that each reading of this basically simple book helps peel back another level of understanding and appreciation. It is a book that is actually instructional. It should be read often as a way to reflect and then to live. The main theme is teaching kids (and adults alike) to... Stop. Ponder. Remember God. To see Him every day in everything. To align daily with who He is. It is beautifully illustrated, with large colorful pictures that engage, teach, enlighten and intrigue. She shared how the book was firs
